I purchased my first Korean study book on January 15, 2008, from Amazon. It is called Speaking Korean by Francis Y. T. Park. This book is used for independent study was better reviewed for studying by oneself without a teacher. After that I purchased a mini-dictionary, followed by a bigger thicker dictionary. After a while of spending time online with many Koreans, and helping them with their English learning, I decided to start studying this language as soon as the book arrived at my home. My learning method is simple and I am a slow learner; even so I seem committed to learning a third language. Currently, I just know a few greetings, farewells, and questions using the “polite” words (September 28, 2008). And I still continue to communicate with some Koreans whom I consider as friends via Skype and the Instant Messenger providers. I use Skype for voice communication. As of now, I have a close local Korean friend who is willing to patiently help me with new phrases. I write them down about 30 times or more to remember them. I enjoy spending time with him and occasionally I frequent the closest Korean restaurant at the back of a Korean convenience store. I like Korean food because the spicy tastes resembles the food I ate when I lived in Togo, West Africa in my younger years. Some ask, "Why learn Korean?" My answer is that, of now, I have that interest and also I like to be doing a task that is easy while also focusing on another task that is harder. I appreciate the challenge. The easy task is remembering where to click for an end result on a computer program and the hard task is just keeping myself disciplined to learn a new language. Interests |
